The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles recently awarded the nongovernmental organization Temech an Israel Grant for it’s Employer Based Training Program. Temech, established in 2005, aims to enable, empower and train Orthodox women in Israel to maximize their employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. It offers a full range of support to job-seekers and entrepreneurs from the religious community, including employment training, professional conferences, workshops, mentors, individualized support, professional forums, job fairs and a professional working hub. Working closely with employers, policy-makers and government institutions, 10,747 women in 19 cities throughout the country have advanced their employment opportunities through Temech to date. The organization’s executive director, Shaindy Babad, said she and her colleagues were “thrilled” over receiving the award. She added that the Employer Based Training Program was “one of Temech’s flagship programs in that it addresses multiple barriers to employment for Orthodox women by offering training tailored to industry needs and in partnership with employers.” She expressed gratitude to the Jewish Community Foundation of LA “for this generous grant, which will be used over three years to provide job training and placement services for 200 unemployed and underemployed ultra-Orthodox women from across Israel.” The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles is one of the largest managers of charitable assets and a leader in planned giving solutions for Greater Los Angeles Jewish philanthropists. The foundation currently manages assets of more than $900 million and ranks among the 11 largest Los Angeles foundations. In 2013, the foundation and its more than 1,000 donors distributed $65m. in grants to hundreds of nonprofit organizations with programs that span the range of philanthropic giving.
